The outstanding values of Ho Dong Tien
The unique structure of Ho Dong Tien
Along the rooftop of the first compartment, there are many sparkling stalactites, curving down as curtain. They are also the basis to be guessed that there maybe many stalagmites lying under the sediment layer of the cave to hold these blocks of stalactites.
From the second compartment, there is an entrance to the sea though a system of underground tunnels and cracks in karst. This type of lakes is usually called “áng” (a karst tunnel with its bottom full of water). This compartment is a valuable place to research about ecology and creatures.
The most interesting part of the cave is the final compartment called “Pearl Cup” or “Chén Ngọc” in Vietnamese. In this compartment, there is a great beam of stalactites beautifully curving down. Unlikely most of the other famous caves in Halong that have been commonly exploited such as Thien Cung cave, Sung Sot cave, Dau Go cave… Ho Dong Tien attracts many people because of its natural bright white stalactite beams mainly thank to the protection of Halong management from exploiting this destination for tourism.
Millions of calcite crystals in Ho Dong Tien brighten fancifully and sparklingly when the light reflects not only create a unique picture but also create good condition for many special creatures to develop.
If you are interested in ecology and geomorphology, you are welcome to this magic cave. Following researchers or joining an environmental education class (in Ecoboat project) will be an unforgettable that you have never experienced before.
